Where does the name come from?

Jane's Walks are named after JANE JACOBS (1916 – 2006), American-Canadian urban theorist, author and activist whose grassroots efforts and community work have left lasting marks in the fields of urban planning, sociology and economics.  Fittingly, Jane's Walks take place in early May, around the time of Jacobs' birthday. 

Jane's Walk in Oberwil 

This will be the very first Jane's Walk taking place in Oberwil. We are open to experimentation and exploration! Although Jane's Walks can be about architecture and heritage, they also aim to offer a more personal take on the local culture, the social history and the planning issues faced by the residents.

Meeting Place and Itinerary

We will meet at the Ziegelei Lädeli and will walk from there in the direction of Oberwil's Hauptstrasse. In addition to the former brickworks / Ziegelei, other places of interest might include the Blue House by Herzog&deMeuron, the interior of the Catholic Church / Katholische Kirche and the works by Hans Arp, Hohle Gasse and the building which used to house Oberwil's first Consum store and which is now in the process of being acquired by the Gemeinde ...

Language

Jane's Walk is not a guided tour but a series of conversations - in English / German
