"Suspended - the Lightness of Stones" is a temporary installation on the top floor - under the folded roof - of Basel's Museum der Kulturen. Created by South African artist Justin Fiske this kinetic artwork consists of thousands of pebbles collected at the shores of the Rhine.
Each of the pebbles is suspended from the ceiling on a string that is channeled into a kind of a machine that can be operated so that the whole stone formation moves. Exhibited between these "clouds" of pebbles are various stone objects from the museum's collection.
