Artificial Intelligence

Architecture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Picture

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) in architecture is at a relatively early stage, yet it promises to affect the field profoundly. AI can not only significantly improve efficiency in the design process, construction, and building management, but could also provide a framework for novel methodologies of creative design. In this talk we will look at the way architectural practice is adopting AI based tools to analyse data pertaining to site analysis, structural integrity, and energy optimisation; rapidly generate and evaluate numerous design possibilities; and create “digital twins” and augmented and virtual reality as means of design collaboration and communication with clients. We will also discuss academic
research that explores constructs used in deep learning / generative neural networks in order to show how AI has already started to create a certain new sensibility in architecture and larger cultural lanscape.
